“Can you bring a flatbed?” is a useful starting question, but the loading plan still depends on the car. Share the exact year, make, model, condition, and location so transport requirements can be reviewed before pickup.
AWD and 4WD: identify the vehicle first
If you know the drivetrain, include it in the request. If you do not, tell us rather than guessing. Manufacturer procedures, wheel condition, steering, keys, and loading access need to be checked for the specific model. Do not assume a neutral setting makes every towing method suitable.
Electric and hybrid vehicles
NHTSA directs EV owners to their owner’s manual for towing options. Its manufacturer emergency-response guides also provide vehicle-specific towing information for responders. Tell the operator that the vehicle is electric or hybrid and report known damage before transport is arranged.
Do not touch or inspect a potentially damaged high-voltage battery. Smoke, fire, unusual heat, or immediate danger requires 911. Explain known collision or battery damage to responders and the towing operator; an ordinary pickup plan may not be appropriate.
Low clearance and modifications
Mention lowered suspension, body kits, front splitters, oversized wheels, or other modifications. Describe the pickup surface and approach: a sloped driveway, parking garage, or tight space may affect loading. Share an existing photo if helpful, but do not crawl under the car or enter traffic to take one.
What to confirm on the call
Have the pickup and destination ready, and say whether the wheels roll, the car steers, and the keys are available. Ask the operator to confirm equipment compatibility and pricing. A flatbed request alone does not guarantee every vehicle or location can be handled.
